The Marquis de Sad wrote “120 days of Sodom” for 37 days of 1785 - and the disputes around this text have not subside for the third century. However, this is interesting: already at the beginning of the twentieth century, when the novel was finally published (and was immediately prohibited in most countries), his serious study began by literary scholars, which intuitively felt that not all with this sensational scandalous book as it seems.
What, in fact, is such a “120 days of Sodom”, with its stylistically sophisticated construction and a dry “catalog of crimes” in the final? The greatest, most cynical literary black joke in the history of mankind? Gloomy political pamphlet, spectacularly camouflaged for cruel, bloody erotica? Or just the first bell of madness, which was getting closer to the author, who ended his days in the Clinic for the mentally ill? There is still no firm answer to this question
