This book, created by an international team of historians, is dedicated to the history of the emergence, formation, and development of the Trotskyist movement in Latin America during its initial, heroic stage in the 1930s and 1940s, when it had to defend its ideological and political position in the face of hostility and repression from both right-wing, anti-communist forces and authorities, as well as from its former comrades in the Communist International. The book provides a history of the international establishment of Trotskyism and its various trends in individual Latin American countries, as well as a panorama of ideological and political discussions within the left-wing movement worldwide during these dramatic years of the 20th century.
