The book is a collection of detective and adventure stories by the most famous English and American writers of the 19th and 20th centuries, adapted by G.K. Magidson-Stepanova. The text of each story is accompanied by a commentary, exercises aimed at practicing vocabulary and grammatical structures, as well as checking text comprehension and developing speaking skills. A dictionary is provided at the end of the book. The collection is intended for students of 7th–9th grades of secondary schools, lyceums, gymnasiums, and 1st–2nd year students of non-linguistic universities.
