In times of great upheaval, the question of two ways of interacting with the surrounding context - adaptation and resistance - becomes particularly acute. In the new book by Professor I. P. Smirnov, adaptive and protest strategies of human behavior are considered as realizations of the possibilities inherent in our self-awareness. Alongside adaptation and resistance, from the perspective of philosophical anthropology, the book also examines closely related socio-cultural phenomena such as violence, consumerist-hedonistic attitudes towards life, continuity in the face of the variability of historical situations. The work concludes with a section on the unconscious, which serves as a premise for the author to discuss the formation of self-awareness. Igor Pavlovich Smirnov is a philosopher and cultural studies expert, a theorist and historian of literature.
