"Ice Walk" is a poetic and contemplative travel diary of a German director who set out on a walking journey from Munich to Paris in November 1974. Herzog was firmly convinced that if he reached Paris on time, the critically ill Lotte Eisner, a legend of film criticism whom he admires, would remain alive. "Ice Walk" is a documentation of this ritual journey that can be read in several ways: it is both a poignant reflection on life and death, and meditative sketches of disappearing European nature, and a stream of agitated consciousness brought on by walking, and prose cinema reminding us that it is only on the road that we find peace.
