An attempt to compile a complete course on history, archaeology, and ethnography for the students of the St. Petersburg Imperial Academy of Arts. The album contains 8 pages of explanatory text and 15 color pages with numerous illustrations. The original title of the album is "Explanations of figures for the writing on the Slavs from the times of Trajan and the Russians to the Tatar invasion." Olenin, Alexey Nikolaevich (1763 or 1764-1843) - Russian statesman, historian, archaeologist, draftsman. State secretary (1814-1827), later a member of the State Council. Actual Privy Counsellor. Member of the Imperial Russian Academy (1786), honorary member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences (1809), member (since 1804) and president (since 1817) of the Imperial Academy of Arts. From 1811 - director of the Imperial Public Library in St. Petersburg.
