The plays of Eugene Ionesko (1909-1994) put contemporaries at a dead end and at first even starred from the repertoire. But soon they gained a noisy success, and today the theater is inconceivable without Ionesko - the recognized classic of the avant -garde of the twentieth century.
Paradox, madness, a game with words, a grotesque, exposing theatrical techniques, a deliberate absence of logic, and sometimes plot, characters similar to a caricature, inseparability of humor and comic - all this does not just confuse the viewer, but makes it clear that life is absurd, not the theater.
The book includes two plays "The disinterested killer" and "Macbeth" - dramatic anti -utopias about the complex relationships of a person with a society, within which he is forced to live.
