Deniska Korablyov is a very ordinary boy. He goes to school, is lazy to do his homework, argues with his mom over trivial things. And like any boy his age, he doesn't like to be bored. That's why every day he comes up with something new: sometimes he pours tasteless porridge out the window, and other times he trades an expensive toy dump truck for a small firefly in a matchbox. This character was created by the writer Viktor Dragunsky, whose cheerful stories have been enjoyed by generations of young readers.
However, not everyone is familiar with another side of Dragunsky, a bit sad and serious. Dragunsky, who was not taken to the front due to asthma, but whose love for the Motherland and desire to help fellow countrymen were so strong that he joined the militia. Memories of that time formed the basis of the autobiographical story "He Fell on the Grass...", also included in this collection.
The characters of Viktor Dragunsky were brought to life by the master of book graphics, Yevgeny Medvedev. In 2014, he became the laureate of the President's Prize in the field of literature and art for children and youth. The series "Deniska's Stories" is being published for the first time with a full set of illustrations by the famous artist.
