The operatic song "Romance with a Double Bass" based on the story by A.P. Chekhov was written by Igor Vorobyov in 2018 upon the request of the artistic director of the Quattrobass+ ensemble, the renowned virtuoso double bassist Alexander Shilo, and was staged in the same year by Maria Shilo in the Prokofiev Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre. The composer has resolved the vaudevillian plot in a traditional genre style: song numbers alternate with spoken and dance parts. Simultaneously, the composer employs symphonic development techniques that connect the parts into a unified whole.
The current sheet music edition is the composer's arrangement of the opera for two soloists and piano (the instrumental ensemble in the score includes piano, accordion, and four double basses).
