The documentary story by A. B. Galkin, "A Man with Prejudices," tells about the mysteries of the pre-duel history of A. S. Pushkin. The author compares the chronicle of events in the last months of Pushkin's life with the testimonies of his contemporaries, juxtaposes different versions of what happened, and challenges people and documents to a "face-to-face confrontation," offering the reader his own convincing hypothesis about the main mystery of the poet's behavior before the duel: what was the reason for his certainty that the anonymous lampoon sent to him was composed by Baron Heckeren and his adopted son Georges Dantes, and what role did the poet's wife's sister, Ekaterina Goncharova, play in this story? The book also presents the author's polemics with the academician N. Ya. Petrakov and other newly emerged "Pushkinists." In the course of the polemics, the author convincingly refutes the scandalous hypothesis that Pushkin himself was the author of the anonymous lampoon and sent it to himself and his friends. A. B. Galkin's story "Predictions" in an artistic form answers another mystery of Pushkin's life. It concerns the predictions of the fortune-teller Kirchhof and an anonymous astrologer from Odessa, who foretold Pushkin's fatal death in a duel. The book is addressed to all lovers of Pushkin's work.
