Alexander Dumas, the son of the author of Count Monte Cristo, "Three Musketeers", "Queen Margo", proved that he was able to compete with the great father. At twenty -four, he wrote the novel "Lady with Camellias" (1848), which he spoke about all of Paris. The plot was based on the real story of a fateful beauty, a courtesan of Marie Dyul, who was very young from tuberculosis. The novel was converted into a play, which had noisy success, the story of the tragic love of Margarita Gauthier and Arman Duval, eternal femininity and eternal victim, picked up Giuseppe Verdi and wrote the opera "Traviata". But unlike Camellia, the plot did not fade: there were three ballets, two dozen films, comics, theatrical productions - in a word, immortality was destined. In the 19th century, the role of Margarita Gauthier was played by Eleanor Duza, and in xx-m-Sarah Bernar, Greta Garbo, Alla Nazimova, Sarah Montel, Norma Tolmadge, Francesca Neri and Isabelle Jupper. Alexander Dumas’s novel “Lady with Camellias” is published in the new translation of Marianne Taimanova
