The history of the 215th Yegery division of the Wehrmacht is written by its veterans, former staff workers by Lieutenant Colonel Walter Shelm and Captain Gans Merle. After the "easy walk" in France in 1939-1940. The 215th division fell to fight in the most difficult areas of the Eastern Front - Tikhvin, Volkhov, Ladoga Lake, Leningrad Blockade. Only from afar, having loved the spiers of the city on the Neva, the soldiers of the division paid for this a huge price. Without achieving a single goal, the German troops were eventually discarded from Leningrad. In 1944-1945 The 215th division fully divided the total share of Wehrmacht - continuously retreated, broke out of the environments, was subjected to defeat, replenished and again desperately dismissed from relentlessly persecuted troops of the Red Army, which the authors are forced to respond very respectfully. During the battle in Kurlendia, the remains of the division were evacuated to Germany, where they were facing the formation of several erzardivisias, for the importance of the status "special". Newly formed division "Theodore Kurner" "was lucky to protect the heart of Reich Berlin. The remaining in the living servicemen of the division was waiting for a long Russian captivity.
The authors used not only the official documents and orders of the pore, the combat operations of individual division divisions, but also the extensive corps of personal diaries of officers, nonberofitisers and ordinary, who participated in the eastern campaign in the ranks of the 215th division. These entries helped to supplement the analysis of events from the point of view of the division command with personal impressions of a simple soldier and officer. For greater clarity, the authors used a large number of schemes of individual fighting and battles.
Despite some pathos of the authors, this book will be useful to the Russian reader, including specialists in the history of the Great Patriotic War, because sheds light on many little-known pages of the history of the Great Patriotic War, and above all battles on the Leningrad direction and in Volkhovsky Front in 1941-1943, which became one of the most tragic pages of the history of the war
