Irina Mizinina, the translator of the cult novel '1984', analyzes the principles by which George Orwell created Newspeak, how the linguistic processes of the totalitarian society of Oceania coincide with changes in modern language, and what awaits those who are not afraid to think about what is happening. Why did the party elite pay such great attention to the new language? The point is that it was supposed to not only provide the means of expressing the worldview and mental habits corresponding to Ingsoc, but also make all other ways of thinking impossible. It was assumed that when Newspeak is fully accepted forever by everyone, and the old language is forgotten, heretical thoughts will become impossible.
