The book is a memory of a wartime generation, a book that simultaneously represents the voice of a distant era and an evaluation of modern historical science. It is about one of the most crucial events of the Great Patriotic War and the entire Second World War - the Battle of Kursk. It lasted for 50 days - from July 5 to August 23, 1943. This heroic and tragic time is reflected in the documents and newspapers of that time collected in the book, as well as in letters, diaries, and memoirs. The authors are diverse - from world-famous military leaders to ordinary infantrymen, tankers, pilots, and anti-tank gunners who fought against German "Tigers" and "Panthers." Also included are writers, artists, teachers, and ordinary Soviet citizens. Some of them experienced the unprecedented power of the German "armored fist" under Kursk but managed to withstand, resist, and force the Nazis to retreat. Others were in the rear but left valuable eyewitness testimonies about the atmosphere in the country during the Battle of Kursk. The main goal of the book is to provide the broadest panorama of the Battle of Kursk, often referred to as the "Great Turning Point" in the Great Patriotic War. Indeed, after the summer of 1943, Germany permanently lost its strategic initiative, and the Red Army continuously advanced westward until Victory. However, it is important not to forget that this turning point was only possible thanks to colossal efforts, unprecedented heroism, and immense losses that the Soviet Union suffered during the 50 "Kursk days." The book is illustrated with unique photographs and contains a series of documents, including those that have only recently been declassified.
